Boeing continues to be a reliable partner to Israel's airlines and El Al in particular. El Al has achieved significant milestones with Boeing aircraft, including a world record for the longest nonstop flight with a Boeing 707, the first twin-jet to cross the North Atlantic with a 767-200ER, and a record 1,087 passengers airlifted by a 747 during Operation Solomon. After privatization in 2003, El Al expanded its Boeing fleet with orders for 747s, 767s, and 777s for long-haul routes, as well as eight 737-900ERs in 2011-2012 and up to 16 787 Dreamliners in 2015. In August 2024, El Al finalized an agreement for up to 31 737 MAX jets to renew its fleet.
Boeing's partnership with the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) began in 1948, coinciding with the establishment of Israel, when the Israeli Air Force (IAF) started using the B-17 Flying Fortress. Over the years, various Boeing aircraft have served in the IAF, including the Douglas DC-3, which played a crucial role in airlifting Jewish populations, and the Boeing 707, which was utilized for nearly 40 years in multiple capacities before being replaced by the KC-46 in 2021.
The IAF has also operated a range of Boeing fighter jets, such as the F-15 Eagle and the AH-64 Apache helicopters, with the advanced F-15I Ra’am and AH-64D-I Saraph being notable examples in their current fleet. This long-standing relationship highlights Boeing's significant role in supporting the IAF's operational capabilities throughout its history.
Boeing has a long history of working in partnership with Israel’s technical and industrial sectors and other stakeholders and continues to seek such relationships for common benefit. Today, Israeli industry supplies parts for many Boeing commercial and military products, including the F-15; AH-64D Apache Longbow; and 737, 777 and 787 commercial airplanes.
Boeing and Israel entered a reciprocal procurement partnership in October 2018, with Boeing agreeing to spend billions of dollars in Israel if it wins major defense contracts. Israel is expected to purchase $10 billion worth of military products from Boeing in the next decade, and the new agreement means Boeing will now invest$3.5 billion in new business in Israel.
